I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's Parker ...she likes money and cereal." I'd love it if everyone who's friended me did this. (Yes, even you people who I know really well.) Then post this in your own journal. In return, ask me anything you'd like to know about me and I'll give you an answer.

Since I think I started this ... I was an original Star Trek fan, and Kari Sperring's first editor (when she was about 14). I love University libraries.

Where's your favourite place to read?

Cucumbers are the only vegetable I can think of that I dislike because of the taste rather than because I feel bad after eating them. The two I dislike for making me feel sick are peppers (all sorts) and tomatoes.

I would (still, possibly even more emphatically) rather be an archivist who moonlights as a historian than a 'real academic'.

Many years ago, I climbed up the winding passages inside the cliff to reach the head of one of the standing Buddhas of Bamiyan.

Running away to America in order to finish writing my sci-fi trilogy, the one marrying "Boything" and red shoes everywhere.

If I seem to recall correctly you're able to eat thai food, what's your favourite thing to eat? (I've just discovered my allergies can tolerate the majority of thai food but have no idea what to try when out)

I was told I had the world's longest appendix, once. I mean, I once had it. It's in a jar on a shelf in a surgeon's office in Illinois, now. Unless he sold it or something. It's been a while.

I haven't updated poletopole.livejournal.com lately, but that's still my primary interest these days: Arctic and Antarctic travel.

When I was a kid, I never cried at films or got scared. I never had nightmares after reading ghost stories (and I read a lot of them). My mum always used to say it was because I had a very firm grip on what was real and what was fiction, but sometimes I worry that it was because I lack creativity and imagination.

I love forest green so much that in my family it's called "Rose green". These days I wear more blue than green because men's shirts in my size are easier to find in default-blue, and more black than green because it goes with everything, but it used to be that I could be recognized from afar by my green backpack, green purse, green jacket, green shoes...

What would you like to do when you're in NYC?
